Tell Me More...
A simply breathtaking newcomer to the hellebore world. Dark, almost black petals surround the zesty hued interior of Helleborus orientalis 'Solar Night'. Transformational picotee edges in a silvery purple hue elevate flowers to celestial realms. Blooming from February through to April, these striking beauties are surrounded by rich, green palmate foliage with serrated edges. All are held on strong stems, perfect for a vase or bouquet, and nectar-rich enough to entice in visiting pollinators too.Helleborus are surrounded by myths and legends - used by the Ancient Greeks as a poison on the one hand and as a cure for madness when greatly diluted. Flowers are laden with mystery, darkness and danger in mythology and Helleborus orientalis 'Solar Night' lends itself well to these gothic tales.Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil which benefits from partial or full shade. A fully hardy perennial which does not need winter protection and will reach a mature height and spread of 45cm. Plants will readily naturalise in the right conditions.
