Soft velvet petals of antique pinky-red are filled with golden centres. Blooms cloak Helianthemum ’Ben Hope’ from May to August. Known as the Rock Rose, a name which does not do this charming and hard-working plant justice, Helianthemums are undemanding shrubs which slot into almost any garden planting scheme. Helianthemum ‘Ben Hope’ has grey-green foliage which is evergreen and provides a perfect backdrop to show off the cheerful summer blooms, loved by bees and other pollinators. This variety works exceptionally well in rockeries and on slopes and banks - where it will reach a spread of 50cm and height of 30cm. Plant several together, around 60cm apart, to form a colourful carpet of evergreen groundcover which will be awash with pollinators. Simply give the plant a light trim after flowering in order to maintain its shape. Helianthemum ‘Ben Hope’ prefers to be planted in full sun which benefits from well-drained soil. Dig in plenty of grit at the time of planting if you garden on heavy soil.
