About Veronica

Veronica are annuals, perennials or sub-shrubs with stunning upright spears of small, fluffy flowers that appear during summer over compact mounds of mildew resistant and lush green foliage. Veronica will attract an array of butterflies to your garden throughout active growth. These plants are best suited to flower beds and borders within cottage and informal garden settings or used as garden edging. You should expect to see Veronica grow to an approximate height and spread of 45-60cm (18-24”).

How to plant Veronica

Veronica are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. At the time of planting, you should amend the soil with a generous amount of compost or organic matter as this will improve overall growing conditions. Dig a hole that is twice the depth and width of the root ball and water thoroughly and deeply. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade where they will thrive best.

How to care for Veronica

During the summer, it is beneficial to apply a 5cm (2”) layer of mulch as this will retain moisture levels alongside providing vital nutrients and suppressing weeds. Ensure the soil is kept moist, especially during periods of drought. You may wish to stake taller varieties if they are planted in exposed areas. Deadhead spent flowers to extend and encourage a healthier bloom time.

How to propagate Veronica

It is possible to propagate Veronica by division during the autumn or spring.
