What makes alliums so appealing are the enchanting spherical orbs which seem to float above the border. When these orbs are on the larger varieties of alliums, we refer to these spheres as globes. In this collection we have three elegant alliums which produce striking-coloured, classical, lollipop globes to bring life, drama and vibrancy to your border. Allium stipitatum 'Mount Everest' - produces fifty or more white, star-shaped flowers formed into a tightly-packed ball, up to 12cm across. Allium hollandicum 'Purple Sensation' - perhaps the most popular allium; height, sophistication, style and an intense purple Allium christophii - the flowers have a metallic sheen and the flower globes are up to 20cm in diameter; the flowerheads look spectacular when dried for decoration. Being bulbous perennials, alliums are easy to grow, form bright spheres in the early summer and have a magnetic attraction to the first bumble bees and butterflies of the summer. Grow in borders and containers to create a bejewelled garden in May and June every year.
