This deciduous perennial has vibrant red and yellow, eye-catching lily-like blooms which are sure to capture everyone's attention when they bloom in June to August. With a myriad of common names such as Glory Lily, Flame Lily and Tiger Claw it is easy to see how this exciting plant has captivated the imagine of bystanders as it really does resemble these popular descriptions. Originating from East Africa and Asia, Gloriosa superba 'Rothschildiana' will climb and grow to a height of around 2 metres over the warm summer months, providing an abundance of 10cm flowers with 6 reflexed red petals that are edged in yellow and have a swirling, wave-like yellow edge.A drought tolerant, tender perennial, Gloriosa superba 'Rothschildiana' will thrive in well-drained soil that has full sun and enjoys a sheltered aspect. Against a warm wall or in a container that can be moved out of harm's way during inclement weather would be a perfect spot. With a hardiness rating of H1c 'Rothschildiana' is only tolerant of temperatures down to 5 C so will require overwintering in a heated greenhouse or conservatory. It could also be grown as an annual and as a houseplant.
