Tell Me More...
Ornamental grasses provide a fantastic contrast against other shrubs or perennials, introducing movement and softening hard landscaping. Festuca glauca 'Auslese' is a beautiful, evergreen, compact ornamental grass named after one of the sweetest white wines produced in Germany. Festucas are incredibly popular, and 'Auslese' shifts and changes each season for animated interest. In spring a burst of new growth emerges adding vibrancy. This is followed in summer by taller flower stems which catch the light and sway in seasonal breezes. Then in autumn and winter the tops of the evergreen foliage take on deeper hues which, again, catch the low light and warm on even the coldest of winter days. Stunning in borders, containers or lining a path for ground level interest. An easy going, hardy shrub which forms mounds up to a height and spread of 30cm. 'Auslese' prefers well-drained soil in full sun and does not like sitting in wet soil so amend your growing medium to meet these requirements. Maintenance wise, simply comb through with your fingers to remove any faded stems in early spring, prior to the emergence of new growth.
