The perfect contender for pole position in a woodland border or shaded corner of the garden. Gillenia trifoliata holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding performance and reliability in the garden where it will produce delicate looking star shaped flowers from May to July each year.Gillenia trifoliata is a shrubby looking perennial which is not dissimilar in appearance to gypsophila, although it prefers to be grown in shade. Blooms are borne in profusion on strong, deep red, wiry stems and bring an ethereal element to the garden with their daintiness. Perfect for creating unusual and eye-catching groundcover in semi-shaded spots and providing an enticement to pollinators. In autumn flowers develop attractive seedheads and the foliage turns fiery orange red for late season interest. Gillenia trifoliata is a deciduous, fully hardy perennial which prefers moist, well-drained soil in a site that enjoys part sun, part shade or full shade. Reaches a height of 90cm, with a spread of 75cm.
