Tissue paper flowers with pronounced stamen emerge in May and last through into June, adding reflective light to shady spots, woodland edges and brightening sunny borders or rockeries. Geranium phaem album is incredibly adaptable and its beautifully marked, deeply lobed foliage, with decorous purple blotches, is retained from March to November – offering valuable, weed-suppressing carpets of gap-filling, ground covering interest. The white flowers of Geranium phaeum album lend themselves well to a ‘white garden’ if you are lucky enough to have one. Equally they will mix and mingle with ferns and hostas in the shade, or tulips and pansies in a sunny spot.
