Tell Me More...
A new cultivar Gentiana makinoi White Magic boasts clear, crisp white flowers with intriguing specks of green-yellow on the outside. With a dwarf habit of glossy, bright green leaves, the abundance of blooms is produced continually from May to September and sometimes longer. Perfect as weed-suppressing groundcover in borders and containers where bees and other pollinators will be drawn in for a closer look. Discovered growing in a Dutch greenhouse, nestled amongst a crop of Blue Magic in 2008, it has taken years to stabilise production and then introduce it into the horticultural market. Obviously different from Blue Magic in flower colour this new white gentian also possess a much longer flowering period. Gentiana makinoi White Magic prefers to be grown in moist soil in partial shade. Reaching a height and spread of 30cm, this herbaceous perennial has an RHS hardiness rating of H4, so will require some protection if temperatures below -10C.
