Tell Me More...
Majestic stems of Fritillaria aureomarginata burn brightly in the spring garden and add a welcome splash of tropical colour. Well known as Crown Imperials and originating from Turkey and Kashmir, these striking beauties are some of the most undemanding fritillaria to grow and will easily naturalise in your borders. Beautiful and unusual tufts of striped foliage produce smoky-purple stems up to 1.2m in height in April and May, each bearing up to eight, elegant, bell-shaped blooms which nod in the breeze. The terracotta flowerheads form a circle at the top of the stem with a tuft of matching variegated foliage crowning them above. Excellent as unusual cut flowers for your home and loved by bees in the garden. Plant Fritillaria aureomarginata bulbs deeply in autumn, in moist, well-drained soil in part shade. Grown together as a group, these bold flowers will make a real statement in your late spring garden each year.
