As you may be aware, blue is a hard-to-find colour in the flower world with delphinium often being the first plant to spring to mind. New breeding in the search for more unusual varieties has created Delphinium elatum ‘Delphina Light Blue White Bee’ - the first light blue dwarf delphinium! Developed with patios, courtyards and smaller gardens mind – plants are perfect for containers and borders, particularly because they are less inclined to flop over as their taller cousins can. Fully double, pale blue blooms form huge flowerheads all summer long, delighting you, your visitors and the local bees and butterflies. These dreamy spires of blooms are held over clumps of green foliage which is retained from March to October. Even better petals can be dried to use as ‘environmentally friendly confetti’ and stems make excellent cut flowers, whether dried or fresh. Delphinium elatum ‘Delphina Light Blue White Bee’ grows to a height of approximately 50cm, spreading to approximately 25cm; ideal for the mid to front tier of a border. Plants prefer well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay. Position in full sun or partial shade and this hardy (H5) herbaceous will thrive outside all year round without the need for additional winter protection.
