Tell Me More...
Generous and robust in size, as well as elegant and graceful Filipendula rubra Venusta will command everyone's attention. Maple-like deep green foliage appears in spring followed by large heads of dark pink fluffy flowers from June to August, reminiscent of sticks of freshly woven candyfloss! Over time these blooms fade to a paler pink and become an interesting autumn vision when the petals have fallen. Known also as the 'Queen of the Prairie' due to being a native American perennial.Versatile in its uses, perfect for a wildflower prairie or informal cottage style garden or can be planted near a stream edge or in a boggy garden. With slightly perfumed and nectar-rich blooms, Filipendula rubra Venusta is bees and butterfly friendly, perfect for helping our British wildlife flourish. This RHS AGM awarded stately perennial prefers to be planted in fertile, humus-rich, moist, but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade, attaining a height of between 1.5-2.5m and spread of 50-100cm. Classed by the RHS as H5, which is an herbaceous perennial, hardy down to -15 degrees.
