A stalwart of the summer garden
Phlox produce a profusion of almost cloud-like perfumed panicles from July to September. Wonderful as cut flowers, lasting for over a week in a vase and allowing you to enjoy the fragrance indoors. Irresistible to bees, butterflies and other pollinators who are drawn in by the nectar-rich bounty. Originating in North America, Phlox were introduced to Europe in the 1700s. The name itself stems from the Greek word for ‘flame’ – perhaps because they stand out like torches in the borders from July to September each year (with foliage borne from April onwards).
