First to bloom are the pink, apricot and purple spires of the lupin and digitalis, along with the huge salmon-pink flowers of the papaver. Cushions of pink armeria burst open at ground level, gradually joined by clouds of pinkish white erigeron, lime-green alchemilla, and mauve scabious. The pink-purple delphinium provides bold, upright accents in midsummer, and the antique-white echinacea takes us through to autumn.
