The beautiful pinkish-lilac and white blooms of Erythronium dens-canis 'Rose Queen' bring a pretty picture to shady areas of the garden. In March and April clumps of mottled green foliage bear stems of single blooms up to 15cm in height. Pointed and reflexed, the petals are speckled with yellow or brown markings at the heart. A member of the lily family, which is easy to see why when you view the shape of the curved petals and prominent, pollen-rich stamens. The bulbs are shaped like canine teeth (which is where this delicate plant gains its common name). Plant during autumn in moist, well-drained soil with dappled shade, for flowers the following year onwards. A hardy, bulbous perennial which holds its foliage through to the middle of summer. Erythronium dens-canis 'Rose Queen' will happily naturalise, forming spectacular clumps of blooms. Ideal for beneath deciduous trees and shrubs or at the edge of a woodland areas.
