This hybrid Erysimum is part of the ‘Winter’ series - specifically bred to combine the best qualities of several species, resulting in large, long-flowering, intensely fragrant plants with a neat, tight growth habit. From March all the way through until September, Erysimum ‘Winter Passion’ bears dark red, scented blooms which, unusually, fade to purple with age. Leaves are dark green and narrow, providing a fine, delicate texture. This is a generous, floriferous plant, perfect for a rock garden, the middle of a border, or a container display, where, aside from a light haircut after flowering, it can be left alone to do its own, rather spectacular thing. Erysimum ‘Winter Passion’ prefers poor to moderately fertile soil of any kind except heavy clay – ensure it is well-drained and benefits from full sun or partial shade. Erysimum are an excellent choice for chalky conditions and prefer neutral to alkaline conditions. A hardy (H4), evergreen perennial which reaches a height and spread of 50-60cm.
