A fantastic, compact Sea Holly, Eryngium variifolium forms a flat rosette of richly marbled leaves.
Evergreen dark green foliage with intricate white marble-like veins stays all year round, giving interest in your garden. From June to August, steely blue stems rise to hold branched clusters of stiff, thistle like, blue-grey-silver flowers which make an interesting addition to your indoor fresh cut flower arrangements and are also amazing when dried.
Happy in borders and containers, as a specimen plant or when intertwining with other perennials or grasses, Eryngium will entice passing bees, butterflies and other pollinators closer for investigation.
A fully hardy perennial with an RHS rating of H4, which is down to around -10°C, Eryngium variifolium is drought tolerant once established. Preferring to be grown in well-drained soil in a sunny spot, it will reach a height of around 40cm, spreading to around 30-50cm.
