Tell Me More...
An exciting new arrival for 2025, this eryngium is quite unlike most others! Clusters of striking maroon-red flowers offer a dramatic visual display between July and August and sometimes into September as the stand on upright stems, encircled by paler, creamy bracts. The texture and size make the flowers look like spiky berries – just perfect for a coastal garden, rockery or a vase inside your home. Eryngium pandanifolium ‘Magical Red Thunder’ is a hardy, mediterranean cultivar with robust stems reaching up to 90cm – a great way add architectural impact in containers and borders. Foliage is held from March to October as spiky looking swords of mid-green – it is clump forming and provides a sturdy base around 40cm in spread, from which the flowering stems emerge. Plant your Eryngium pandanifolium ‘Magical Red Thunder’ in poor to moderately fertile soil of any kind except heavy clay and position in full sun for best results. A hardy (H5), herbaceous perennial which should not need additional winter protection throughout most of the UK.
