Eremurus robustus is not only known as the Foxtail Lily, it has the common name of Giant Desert Candle too. Small wonder when it can reach up to 4m tall in the right conditions - in addition the leaves on the marvellous monster can individually reach up to 1.2m long, giving the overall plant spread of 1.5m. Not one for a balcony or window box, unless it is a very large one!Alongside this stature, Eremurus robustus also brings multitudes of pinkish-white blooms up to 4cm across that emerge from the tall flower stems, working their way bottom to top, from June to August each year. Native to western and central Asia, these clump-forming perennials can be sensitive to frost in early spring, though are easily protected by horticultural fleece. Rest assured this small effort brings with it great rewards, so much so that this splendid eremurus holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden. Eremurus robustus is a hardy herbaceous perennial which prefers humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun.
