Tell Me More...
Create a magical woodland gladeOne of the tallest of the family, Epimedium pubigerum creates handsome mounds of leathery, green, heart-shaped leaves which are slightly hairy. Turning bronze in autumn, new foliage also emerges with bronze-purple tones. In March and April, tall, branching, wiry stems rise gracefully, holding a profusion of small, pink flushed buds, each one opening to reveal cream-white blooms with a bright yellow centre. Held well above the evergreen foliage, a frothy, hazy effect is created in your shady areas.Epimedium are also known by the common name Bishop's Hat due to the mitre-shaped flowers. Spreading by rhizomes, Epimedium make wonderful weed-suppressing groundcover, just perfect for planting into borders and containers, under shrubs and trees, or in a woodland setting. Originating from Eastern Europe, Epimedium pubigerum prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in full or partial shade, reaching a height of up to 40cm, spreading to 60cm. A long-lived, hardy perennial the RHS classified as hardiness rating H5.
