Tell Me More...
Epimedium grandiflorum is the large-flowered variety of Epimedium, which you often hear referred to as 'Bishops Hat - because of the flower shape. Originally found growing wild in the woodlands of China, Japan and Korea, Epimedium have been a popular garden plant in Asia for many years; here in the UK the status of these shade loving plants is growing exponentially. Wiry stems hold sprays of pretty, star-like flowers, each with four sepals, making them look rather like little hats. Epimedium flower abundantly in spring and early summer over clumps of pretty, heart-shaped, evergreen foliage. Spreading by rhizomes, Epimedium make wonderful weed-suppressing all-year-round groundcover. Epimedium prefer to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in full or part shade. Epimedium are fully hardy perennials, meaning you will enjoy your Epimedium for many years to come without the worry of needing winter protection.
