Tell Me More...
Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' is an award-winning banana plant with fascinating, burgundy flushed leaves that is recognised by the RHS for its outstanding performance and reliability in UK gardens and holds their Award of Garden Merit. The foliage is well suited to tropical garden schemes and giant, paddle shaped leaves will unfurl on strong, red stems to sway in the breeze for imposing architectural interest from March through to September. New foliage emerges in shuttlecock shapes before stretching as it matures to capture warming sunlight and illuminate the garden.Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' is a tender, evergreen perennial which will require protection from frost in the UK. Plants are best cut back, potted up and moved indoors from late autumn until the following spring. 'Maurelii' prefers well-drained soil in sun or part shade and some protection from strong winds. A fast-growing plant which reaches a mature height of up to 4m with a spread of 2m.
