Enkianthus campanulatus is most commonly known for its exceptional autumnal colour- whereby leaves take on flaming shades of red, orange and yellow before falling in October or November. This slow-growing, hardy shrub also offers particularly pretty cream and pink bell-shaped flowers from May to July each year alongside the astounding foliage display. Flowers are creamy pink with darker margins and delicately striped patterns. Therefore, you get two seasons of interest and impact from this pollinator friendly beauty which will reach up to 4 metres in height and spread over 20 years or so. Small wonder that this exciting hardy shrub holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding and dependable performance in the garden.Plant in a moist, well-drained soil which is preferably mildly acidic in nature. Ideal for the edge of a woodland or partially shaded spot with any aspect other than north facing, Enkianthus campanulatus is happy in full sun too and will happily grow in a large container. Lightly prune to shape in late winter or early spring.
