Tell Me More...
Contrasting, two-toned petals surround a nectar-rich, spiky centre on this show-stopping echinacea, commonly known as Coneflower. Blooms are carried from June to September and last right through the growing season offering zingy and fruity blooms for containers, gravel gardens and open ground. Echinacea hybrid Sweet Sandia is rhizomatous, drought-tolerant perennial which holds its foliage from March to October each year and makes a fabulous, unusual cut flower. Plants reach a height of 50cm with a spread of 40cm. Blooms are attractive to pollinators and other wildlife, with seeds offering sustenance to small mammals and birds. Cut back stems as flowers fade to prolong the season. Leave a few seed heads to enhance your winter garden. Plants prefer a spot in moist, well drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. Echinacea hybrid Sweet Sandia is a hardy, herbaceous perennial which dies back below ground over winter and returns the following spring. Plants do not need additional winter protection in an average winter.
