Digitalis are instantly recognisable flowers, yet Digitalis obscura ‘Dusky Maid’ is just a little bit different. Looking rather like an elusive orange Penstemon, this is in fact a rather unusual Spanish Foxglove. Flowering for much longer, from June right through to September and making an extended statement in your garden with fiery hues adding eye catching interest to borders, woodland edges and strategically placed containers. Many strong, upright, branching stems are laden with the stunning orange-russet spires, suspended over neat clump forming foliage. A real sight to behold either indoors in a vase or in the garden – where pollinators will feast on the nectar. As a woodland plant, Digitalis obscura ‘Dusky Maid’ prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Reaching an approximate height of 1.2m and spreading up to 50cm, this hardy (H4), semi-evergreen perennial will not need additional winter protection unless temperatures fall below -10°C.
