Architypal and elegant, Dierama 'Blackberry Bells' is a beautiful, graceful South African native. Also known as Angels Fishing Rods, the reason is clear when you see the arching, wiry 'rod like' stems rise through tufts of grassy, evergreen foliage. The stems hold deep pink-red-purple, bell-shaped flowers which hang pendulously, like fish from a rod and nod, dancing even on the calmest of days, providing continual movement. Dierama look amazing when grown amongst grasses where they form clumps, from which the flower stems rise. The flowers are great cut for a vase and are much loved by bees and butterflies. Dierama 'Blackberry Bells' prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun, reaching a height of 90cm, and spread of 45cm. Given an RHS hardiness rating of H4, this cormous, herbaceous perennial, will thrive outside all year round in the UK with no winter protection, just ensure the corms do not get too wet.
