Tell Me More...
Dianthus is derived from the Greek ‘Dios-anthus’ meaning ‘Flower of the Gods’. An apt name for this popular garden plant with compact form, delightful fragrance, and long-lasting blooms. Every year new upright varieties of Dianthus are introduced; however, Dianthus 'Mendlesham Minx' is what we would call an ‘old-fashioned’ variety. ‘Old School’ Dianthus have a low spreading habit with silver short grey leaves and masses of flowers. The flowers of 'Mendlesham Minx' are exceptional, beautiful, perfumed, and bicolour. Each bloom is burgundy red and white, putting on a dramatic show from late spring through to the autumn. Dianthus are an easy perennial to grow, are drought tolerant and prefer any soils except clay with an alkaline to neutral pH, happily flourishing in full sun. The scented burgundy red and white blooms of 'Mendlesham Minx' will make a superb addition to your garden. Grows to a height of 20cm with a spread of 30cm. Hardy evergreen perennial.
