Delphinium requienii, also known as Requien’s Larkspur, is a rare and striking biennial or short-lived perennial native to Mediterranean regions, particularly Corsica and Sardinia. Unlike many traditional delphiniums, it thrives in warmer climates and adapts well to dry, rocky soils. Its deeply lobed, dark green foliage forms a robust basal rosette in its first year, followed by tall, elegant spikes of dusky mauve to lavender flowers in its second year. These blooms, adorned with a subtle metallic sheen, attract bees and other pollinators, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Requien’s Larkspur prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position, and does self-seeds readily, ensuring its continued presence in suitable conditions.
