Tell Me More...
Delphinium Blue Bird is the perfect plant to add colour and structure to your cottage garden that would also look sensational in a more modern plating scheme. In summer, large, mid-blue flowers with white centres are much loved by our pollinating friends and create stunning majestic spires as they rise above the mounds of glossy foliage beneath, creating a stunning backdrop for other smaller plants. The stems are excellent as cut flowers for your home and are often used commercially for florists.Delphinium are named from Ancient Greek, meaning dolphin, as the blooms of the wild plants were said to be dolphin shaped, (though new breeding is now producing blooms of a different shape).Delphinium Blue Bird prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade, reaching a height of 1.5-1.8m and spreading to 30cm. A fully hardy, herbaceous perennial that will die back over winter to sprout again the following spring.
