Tell Me More...
Part of a series bred for a smaller, sturdier stature, Delphinium Magic Fountain 'Dark Blue White Bee' seldom requires staking and is an ideal choice for more exposed locations. Its short spikes are densely packed with intense, dark blue flowers, each with a white 'bee' at the centre. These central markings are so called due to their resemblance of a bee in search of nectar. 'Dark Blue White Bee' is at its most effective grown in groups, creating a bold, dense, almost forest-like swathe of colour. We love seeing a drift of this in the middle of a mixed border, humming with (real) appreciative pollinators. The moment for delphiniums is early to mid-summer, though a second flush of flowering is possible if spent flower spikes are removed as soon as they fade. For best results plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Like all delphiniums 'Dark Blue White Bee' will benefit from fortnightly feeding throughout the growing season, particularly if there is to be further flowering. As a short-lived perennial it is often treated as an annual or biennial, though with care and attention can be kept going for longer. Hardy to between -10 C and -15 C. H: 90cm S: 45cm.
