Tell Me More...
Far removed from the tall, densely flowered delphiniums many of us are familiar with, the diminutive Delphinium grandiflorum 'Blue Butterfly' produces open, airy panicles of azure-blue flowers, and reaches no more than 45cm in height. Signalling the start of summer, it blooms throughout June and July, with further flowering possible if spent flower spikes are removed soon after they have finished.'Blue Butterfly' is most effective planted in groups and is perfect for adding vivid colour accents to a border or container display. Like all delphiniums it will benefit from fortnightly feeding throughout the growing season, particularly if there is to be a second flush of flowering. For best results plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun, with shelter from strong winds. 'Blue Butterfly' is hardy to between -10 C and -15 C. As a short-lived perennial it is often treated as an annual or biennial, though with care and attention can be kept going for longer. H: 45cm S: 45cm.
