Tell Me More...
Much like the plush, expensive fabric from which it draws its name, the blooms of Delphinium elatum 'Paramo Black Velvet' exude quality and style. The large, semi-double blooms are borne in shades of dark purple with an almost black 'bee' (or centre) and pack each stem throughout the summer - much to the delight of local bees and butterflies. Flowers appear over compact, mound forming cushions of green foliage, with the blooms held on many, strong, branching stems. Excellent in both borders and containers and specifically bred for cut flower production, ensuring you will have armfuls of blooms to cut for fresh and dried floral arrangements. Delphinium elatum 'Paramo Black Velvet' prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. Growing to a height of 1.5m, and spreading to 60cm this hardy, herbaceous perennial will thrive outside without the need for any additional winter protection. Plants will die back below ground over winter in readiness to shoot again in spring and flower the following year.
