Delosperma Jewel of the Desert Moonstone produces large 5cm, daisy-like blooms of almost opalescent white with a bright yellow centre in such quantities, the mats of evergreen, blue-green foliage are covered from spring to the first frosts. Bees and butterflies will come flirting to visit the nectar-pollen-rich blooms.Native to Southern and Eastern Africa, Delosperma are often seen growing on rocky mountainsides and along rocky coastal areas. Delosperma are also known as the Ice Plant, so called because of the tiny hairs on the surface of the leaves playing with the light, appearing as if they are sparkling. Tougher than they seem, Delosperma Jewel of the Desert Moonstone is deer resistant and easily copes with heat and drought, preferring to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade, and resenting their roots getting too wet. Reaching approximately 10-15cm high when mature, each spreading to around 25cm. As a fully hardy perennial, Moonstone will thrive outside all year round with no winter protection required.
