Tell Me More...
Cypripedium flavum 'Alba', also called the Lady's Slipper Orchid, is one of the most spectacular, unusual and desirable wild orchids which will grow outdoors in the UK. During May, beautiful, open-mouthed, white blooms - each with a large lower lip and dark burgundy markings - are held on stems above fuzzy foliage. Plants are native to areas of China and are a rare oriental treasure. Cypripedium became endangered in their natural habitat, having been collected almost to extinction by the Victorians, so rest assured - these are propagated especially for you and not taken from the wild.Cypripedium flavum 'Alba' is equally happy in borders and containers, preferring moist soil in a shady spot. These surprisingly easy-going plants reach a height of around 50cm and spread up to 30cm. Even better, they will happily naturalise, if left undisturbed, into beautiful drifts. Cypripedium flavum 'Alba' is an herbaceous perennial which has been given an RHS hardiness rating of H6, so will not require any additional winter protection across most of the UK.
