Gardening on a balcony or patio need not prevent you from growing and eating your own produce, thanks to specially bred dwarf varieties such as Cucumber ‘Mini Muncher’. This award-winning cucumber will grow happily in a large tub, and is a strong, disease-resistant, outdoor variety which has been found to cope particularly well with the weather of British summertime. From June to October it produces a heavy crop of small, thin-skinned fruit (peeling not required), ideal for snacking and lunchboxes. For best results grow in full sun in a sheltered spot and provide regular watering and feeding. Use bamboo supports approximately 2m tall pushed into compost to about a 20cm depth. Cut off the top of the plant once it reaches the full height of its supports. H: 3m S: 45cm (potential eventual size if left unchecked).
