Tell Me More...
Providing one of the sharpest colour contrasts of all crocus cultivars, the flowers of Crocus 'Ladykiller' are deep, dark violet edged in brilliant, gleaming white. Inside they are a pale, icy blue with a delicate orange style glowing at the centre. Like all spring crocus, 'Ladykiller' is perfect for growing beneath deciduous trees, through borders, or in grass; where its dramatic flowers burst into life for a few short, glorious weeks from late February. Crocus 'Ladykiller' is a cultivar of chrysanthus; a small and dainty species known to be particularly adept at self-seeding. If left undisturbed, a group planted this autumn should steadily increase over the next few years to form a striking carpet. In grass, this means delaying the first mow until a couple of weeks after the foliage has died down (usually mid to late spring). Choose fertile, well-draining soil in a sunny spot, avoiding anywhere prone to waterlogging. Plant in as great a quantity as you can; much like the snowdrop, crocus is best seen en masse. H: 13cm S: 10cm. Hardy to between -15 C and -20 C.
