Tell Me More...
An autumn flowering crocus, Crocus kotschyanus is a real beauty and a definite for plant lovers.Open, goblet-shaped, lilac - almost light pink - flowers with yellow throats and creamy-yellow stamen are held on 'naked' stems in the autumn, with the foliage arriving later in winter. A breath-taking sight when planted 'en masse' and in drifts where they will naturalise. Flowering from September to November and often longer, Crocus kotschyanus is welcomed by our pollinating friends for providing a late feast of nectar and pollen.Crocus kotschyanus has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding performance in the garden. Crocus kotschyanus prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade where it will reach a height of approximately 10cm. Being a much-loved, hardy, bulbous perennial it will give years of enjoyment with no winter protection required.
