Tell Me More...
Crocosmia masoniorum is an exotic looking bulb which is a drought tolerant garden favourite, known commonly as Giant Montbretia. Exuberant, funnel-shaped blooms are a sight to behold as they sway on wiry stems from August to September, often longer above erect clumps of blade-shaped leaves. Originating from the grasslands of the Southern and Eastern African plains, Crocosmia are hardy plants which are attractive to bees and other pollinators. Loved by florists, they make an exceptionally good and long-lasting cut flower for your indoor arrangements and vases. Easy to grow, preferring fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. Happy in any aspect except north facing, Crocosmia create clumps of up to 45cm wide which can easily be divided. Readily naturalising, this hardy bulbous perennial becomes dormant over winter ready to sprout again with renewed vigour in the spring. Crocosmia masoniorum will reach a height of around 1.2m. Quickly forming a clump, each plant grows to a spread of around 20-45cm.
