One of the UK’s favourites, in the language of flowers, Lily of the Valley signifies the return of happiness. Once used as a liquor and smeared on the forehead to improve one’s common sense, it is also said to improve the memory. Often worn on 8th May each year, in Helston, Cornwall, to welcome the summer and it has now become a tradition in France to sell Lily of the Valley on International Labour Day, 1st May. In May and June, waxy miniature bell-shaped blooms nod in the breeze, amongst green, fluted foliage, reaching a height of about 25cm, and spreading to 30cm. The ‘Cosmic Convallaria Collection’ comprises; majalis - an award winner, with one of the most intense scents we know of, the blooms are a favourite amongst florists; and majalis ‘Rosea’ – a new highly scented Lily of the Valley, boasting pink-mauve, bell-shaped blooms – between 8-12 per arched stem.
