Sensational stems, fantastic flowers and brilliant blue berriesThis cornus certainly works hard to earn its place in a garden, bringing year-round interest with something to delight the senses during every season. Spring sees the emergence of lightly-fragranced, tiny white flowers, along with lush, luminous green foliage. By autumn these flowers have developed into loose clusters of metallic-blue berries, standing out with a pop against leaves now glowing in oranges, reds and purples. As if not impressive enough, 'Blue Cloud' then puts on a winter show to lift even the gloomiest of spirits, with vivid purple-red stems seeming to defy the laws of the season.A fast-growing, spreading, deciduous, fully-hardy shrub. This cornus will tolerate partial shade, although stem colour is brighter when grown in full sun. Moist soil is preferred. Prune annually to maintain vigour and encourage continued growth of colourful stems. Cut back to thigh height (a process known as pollarding), or alternatively right down to just above ground level (known as coppicing), each spring.
