Tell Me More...
An unusual and exciting double bloom which closely resembles its namesake with generous, pink flowers which appear in September to October time. Colchicum 'Waterlily' blooms are rich and colourful, with upward facing tassels - ideal for borders, containers and open ground. Eager to naturalise these nectar-rich blooms entice in the late pollinators and can even be cut for a posy vase. This variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding and reliable performance.Colchicums have a number of common names, one of which, Naked Ladies, refers to the fact that foliage does not appear with the blooms but comes later, in springtime. In modern herbalism the plants are processed to produce medicine which relieves the pain and inflammation of acute gout and rheumatism. Do not be tempted to try this at home though as all parts of the plant are poisonous when ingested!Plant Colchicum 'Waterlily' in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from part sun to full shade. Hardy, bulbous perennials which reach a height of 20cm and spread to 20cm.
