One of the earliest spring bloomsAptly named, Chionodoxa forbesii 'Blue Giant' are taller, larger and brighter than others in their family. With a delicate appearance, up to 8 star-like, blue flowers with white throats are held in loose racemes on strong stems. One of the earliest spring bulbs to flower in March and April, hence the common name, they are also known as scilla. 'Blue Giant' will add several extra weeks of colour to your spring garden. Ideal for naturalising in grass, under deciduous trees, or growing in containers, Chionodoxa will gradually spread to form a bright blue carpet. Combine with early flowering narcissus, snowdrops, and Anemone blanda for a twinkling display. Originating from open mountainsides and forests in West Turkey, Chionodoxa forbesii 'Blue Giant' thrives best in well-drained soil in full sun, reaching a height of 25cm and spreading to 10cm in maturity. A hardy, bulbous perennial with an RHS rating of H6 so should not require any winter protection within the UK.
