Delosperma cooperi ‘Jewel of the Desert Moon Stone’ produces large 5cm, daisy-like blooms of almost opalescent white with a bright yellow centre in large quantities from May to October each year. An evergreen plant with mats of blue-green, fleshy foliage which are retained for most, if not all, of the year – offering weed-suppressing groundcover too. Furthermore, when flowering, blooms attract both bees and butterflies in for a feast. Plants are native to South and East Africa, where they grow on rocky ground, up mountainsides and along the coast – making them ideal for similar conditions in your garden. Delosperma cooperi 'Jewel of the Desert Moon Stone' prefers well-drained soil of any kind except clay and chalk. Position in full sun with any aspect other than north or east facing. A hardy (H4) perennial which grows to 15cm tall and spreads up to 50cm. These dainty delights will not tolerate sitting in wet soil and need protection from temperatures below around -10°C. Alternatively, plant in containers which can be readily protected from wet and cold over winter if you garden in a susceptible area.
