An unusual, white flowering tower of quinceStunning spring flowering Chaenomeles, also known as Ornamental or Japanese Quince, forms the purest white petals around a green central eye. The flowers of Chaenomeles speciosa 'Nivalis' will smother each branch of this early bloomer during March and April, bringing welcome colour early on in the gardening calendar. The flowers attract hungry bumblebees as they wake from their winter slumber. After the flowers have faded, fragrant greenish-yellow fruits mature on thorny branches. Quince fruits can be picked in autumn and cooked to produce fragrant jellies and velvety preserves which are delicious when paired with sharp cheeses.Chaenomeles speciosa 'Nivalis' makes a great shrub for informal hedging, the back of the border or training against a fence or wall. This fast grower is also incredibly hardy and is rated as H6 by the RHS. Prefers a full sun position with well-drained soils, reaching an eventual height of up to 2.5m and a spread of up to 4m.
