Tell Me More...
Centaurea montana produces detailed and intriguing blooms which love a spot in partial or dappled shade as much as one in full sun. With this in mind their linear, fringed petals and fascinating blooms are perfect for a shady patch in a border, the edges of woodland and underneath taller shrubs or trees. Flowers are held on upright stems and act as magnet for pollinators and blooms from May to July each year.Centaurea montana originally hails from the mountain meadows and woodlands of continental Europe and will happily naturalise in UK gardens when provided with the right conditions. When their unfussy habit is taken into account they easily settle in a container, gravel garden or rockery too, as they are drought tolerant once they have established.Centaurea montana prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which matures to a height and spread of 45-60cm.
