Poncirus

History and Origin:

Poncirus are a genus of plants within the Rutaceae family, native to northern China and Korea. It is commonly referred to as ‘Japanese bitter-orange’, ‘hardy orange’ or ‘Chinese bitter orange’. The fruits from this plant are very bitter but are usually used to make marmalade.

About:

Poncirus are evergreen shrubs or trees with thick, leathery foliage and often fragrant star-shaped flowers. These are often followed by large, juicy fruits. Poncirus are best suited to flower beds and borders or used as hedging and screening within a coastal, cottage or informal garden setting. You should expect to see your plants grow to an approximate height of 4-8m (13-26’) and a spread of 2.5-4m (8-13’).
