Pellaea is a genus of ferns within the Cheilanthoideae subfamily. The name Pellaea comes from the Greek word 'pellos' meaning 'dark' and refers to the blue-grey stems. They are more commonly known as cliffbrakes and typically grow in rocky areas.
Pellaea can be either deciduous or evergreen ferns and are well-suited to being planted in containers.
