History and Origin:

Malva is a genus of approximately 25 species within the Malvaceae family, native to Africa, Asia and Europe. They are commonly known as ‘Mallow’ which is the name derived from the Latin and Greek words. Malva is one of the first documented plants in recorded history. It was first mentioned by third century BC physician Diphilus of Siphnus who claimed that the juice from Malva helped to loosen the windpipe.


Malva are annuals, biennials or perennials with saucer-shaped blooms and lush green foliage.
