Lotus are a genus of legumes that includes most bird's foot trefoils and deervetches. It is native to a range of areas including both mountainous and coastal environments and is not to be confused with the Indian or Sacred Lotus, which are aqautic plants that are not closely related.
Lotus can be annuals, perennials, decidious or evergreen shrubs. They are bushy in habit and have pea-like flowers that bloom in spring/summer. They are best suited to a wildflower garden style.
