Ligularia is a genus of around 120 to 140 species of herbaceous perennial plants within the sunflower family. They are mainly native to Asia with some varieties native to Europe. The name Ligularia comes from the Latin word meaning 'strap' which refers to the shape of the plants ray florets. Their common name 'Leopard Plant' refers to the spotted leaves that can be found on some varieties of Ligularia.
Ligularia are herbaceous perennials with large lobed leaves and yellow or orange daisy-like flowers that appear in racemes or branching clusters. They are well-suited to beds and borders in a cottage gardening style.
